Advanced Trauma Life Support Training
In early November an Advanced Trauma life support course (ATLS) took place at the HATO coastguard station in Curaçao where we operate two AW139’s for the Dutch Caribbean Coastguard. The ATLS course is regularly run by a team of doctors from the Netherlands and is primarily in place to give doctors and clinical specialists in Curacao the opportunity to work in a hospital emergency department.
This year several of the Draken technical crew were invited to join the course to further improve their advanced trauma skills and maintain their continuing professional development. The course was run over a weekend both at the hospital and at the Coastguard Air station where students carried out practical exercises wearing full PPE. This year facemasks and visors were mandatory for both lectures and assessments.
