International Women's Day

‘With challenge comes change’, 8th March commemorates International Women’s Day of which #ChoosetoChallenge has been selected as the theme for 2021. The day traditionally highlights a number of historical firsts that were accomplished by women all over the world and presents an active opportunity for us to reflect on how society has progressed and the role women now play in our business.

‘Today on International Women’s Day we celebrate those first women to cast a vote, and those pioneering female scientists, writers, athletes and artists from around the world, recognising the legacies that have been handed down through the generations.

No matter what someone’s background, race, sex or age is, they may be seeking a level of acceptance, especially in our current environment where our safety is forefront in our minds and our social contact is reduced. The launch of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) programme and our EDI Champions is part of our commitment to promoting and maintaining an inclusive working environment. It is also a recognition that we don’t have all the answers, and therefore want to facilitate and encourage conversations about race, ethnicity, gender, disability and diversity, and for people to share their experiences so we can make improvements.’ Sophie Lowton, VP of HR & Sponsor of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion.

At Draken we strive for a culture which provides everyone with opportunities to succeed and grow, and operate in an environment where they can be authentic, know they are valued and be the best version of themselves.

We not only recognise the importance of encouraging more women into Engineering and Flight Operations, but have developed deeper relationships with local schools, colleges and universities, to enable us to attract a diversity of talent, and bring opportunities to underprivileged young people.

Different initiatives have also been put in place to support the development of women, including an “Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)” platform which oversees various employee resource groups and delivers the EDI action plan. We remain committed to the elimination of unlawful and unfair discrimination and value the differences that a diverse workforce brings. We aim to maintain an inclusive work environment and culture – all dedicated to promoting and raising awareness of inclusion and diversity topics from gender diversity to disability and race.

An integral role of the EDI committee and something we will be challenging this is year is to increase the number of female employees in the organisation since the gender balance evolution in the last 3 years has seen a slow increase of 10% – making it even more important to celebrate the company’s female employees and the fantastic contribution they make. So, this International Women’s Day, Draken Europe is calling on everyone to make this day one that truly makes a positive difference for women and make a change.
